Who Paiea is
Paiea appears in the mid-progression quest chain as the exchange holder for the Hovercraft repair. The source pack documents the NPC through the exchange itself — it does not establish backstory, a home location walkthrough or a friendship system, so this page does not invent one.
If you cannot find Paiea, check that the Axolotl Trail chain is active first. The exchange belongs to that progression window, and an inactive quest stage can hide an NPC who would otherwise be available.
The Private Exchange item list
The supported trade list has three entries: 10 Wax Apples, 10 Candied Wax Apples and one Rusty Key. Completing the exchange repairs the Hovercraft and opens the route needed for the Wetlands portion of Axolotl Trail, which is why the trade is a progression item rather than an optional shop.

Preparing the exchange efficiently
Grow the raw Wax Apples and process the candied batch before you accept the exchange stage, so the harvest cycle is not spent waiting. Check your basin setup against the beginner guide's farming notes if the Wax Apple harvest is running short — wrong-basin plantings are the reported cause of stalled crops. Keep the Rusty Key from your scrap runs: trash picking is the reported source, and the item is easy to sell or store accidentally.
Complete the exchange in one visit once the stack is ready. Splitting the hand-in across in-game days invites quest-state confusion that older guides describe but the research pack does not explain.
After the exchange
The repaired Hovercraft opens the Wetlands water route. What happens there — the stone monument, the Reservoir, the four broken pipes — is covered by the Wetlands guide, and the full quest step order by the Axolotl Trail walkthrough.
Do not dismantle or repurpose the Hovercraft after the chain, even if faster travel options open later. The research pack does not verify a re-repair path, so losing the craft could strand the Wetlands route on that save.
